Kids on the Block receives $10,000 grant

What: Chattanooga's Kids on the Block recently received a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga.

Benefits: The money will help continue a limited number of "Personal Safety" educational programs presented by Kids on the Block puppets to children in the Hamilton County school system at no charge.


Cigna employees volunteer at food bank

What: Cigna Chattanooga partnered with United Way of Greater Chattanooga to spend a day working for the Chattanooga Area Food Bank as part of Cigna's Day of Caring.

Benefits: Cigna employees contributed more than 800 hours of free labor in one day sorting and packing food for distribution, the equivalent of an $18,000 donation if the nonprofit had paid for the same amount of work.


SunTrust supports Room in the Inn

What: SunTrust Foundation presented a $12,000 donation to Chattanooga Room in the Inn, a residential facility for homeless women and their children.


Charity ride raises $23,000 for Children's Hospital

What: More than 160 participants took part in the first Cycle for Miracles fundraiser held before the USA Cycling Time Trials.

Benefits: The race raised more than $23,000 for renovation of rooms in Children's Hospital at Erlanger.

Individual Winners: Andrew Woodward won the drawing for a custom bike from LiteSpeed and Keith Thompson won the BikeToursDirect bicycle trip in Ireland. Top individual and team fundraisers were Stephen Rucker, who raised $1,845, and ContinuCare with $12,687.
