St. Patrick's Purse supports Music Club

What: More than 130 guests attended the annual St. Patrick's Purse dinner and auction held at Stratton Hall.

Benefits: The St. Patrick's Day celebration raised $5,500 for the Chattanooga Music Club's college scholarship fund and Memorial Auditorium's Austin pipe organ maintenance fund.

Highlights: Entertainment was provided by Joe Simpson, bagpipe; Jim Bailiff, Irish tenor; Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Youth Orchestra string quartet and brass trio; Caroline Hudson and Harp Quartet; and a Celtic ensemble from Covenant College.

Local volunteers honored as Hometown Heroes

What: Three hundred guests gathered at The Chattanoogan to honor outstanding volunteers during the annual Hometown Heroes luncheon. Keith Alvey, chief executive officer of the Louisville, Ky., chapter of American Red Cross who served as director of the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in New York, was the featured speaker.

Benefits: Chattanooga chapter of American Red Cross.

Honorees: Candis Vickers, Carol Browder, Eddie Pittman, Jack Thompson and Michael Puryear.
