Locks of Love cutathon Saturday

Stylists at The Salon on 58 are in the business of cutting hair, but some cuts are the kindest.

Three years ago, says owner Patricia Cooper, the shop was selected as a certified partner for Locks of Love, which provides custom-made wigs to young people suffering from long-term hair loss caused by conditions such as alopecia or cancer.

"We have made it our mission to raise awareness and funds for the nonprofit, and that is why we will be hosting the fourth annual Locks of Love Cutathon at the salon (Saturday) Nov. 2," she says.

According to Cooper, anyone who donates hair to Locks of Love will receive a free haircut. Door prizes will be awarded to anyone who donates hair or makes a financial contribution to the organization. And there will be contests for the longest ponytail donated, oldest and youngest donors and the family with the highest number of donors.

Ten inches, measured tip to tip, is the minimum length needed for Locks of Love to make a child's hairpiece, but shorter hair and gray hair can be accepted and sold to offset manufacturing costs. Other stipulations for donating may be found at www.locksoflove.org.

Door prizes for donors include Carhartt T-shirts, a Ryobi drill kit, an Origami Owl necklace, a $25 Sam's Club gift card, meals from T-Bone's and Highway 58 Barbecue and admission passes to Chattanooga Zoo, Ruby Falls and Chattanooga Ducks.

Saturday hours at The Salon on 58, 4421 Highway 58, are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 423-855-7572.
