Komen Race draws 6,000 runners

What: More than 6,000 people turned out for the 14th annual Komen Chattanooga Race for the Cure at Finley Stadium on Sept. 29. The event included a competitive 5K and a one-mile fun run and walk.

Benefits: Grants funded by the Chattanooga affiliate of Komen for the Cure.

SpaGo pampers Ronald McDonald House families

What: SpaGo, a mobile spa party company owned by Candace Hernandez and Carrie Sutton, volunteered an afternoon of free manicures, haircuts and facials to stressed parents.

Benefits: Families staying in the Ronald McDonald House on Central Avenue, a home away from home for families of seriously ill, hospitalized children. More than half of the 26 families temporarily lodged in the house received some type of spa service.

ESA luncheon tops $3,000 for Boehm Center

What: Members of the Alpha Beta chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority held their 26th annual Taster's Luncheon at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, assisted by associates from Kohl's Cares for Kids. More than 200 guests enjoyed a buffet lunch followed by a fashion show of styles from Coldwater Creek and Catherine's. Jed Mescon was the show emcee.

Benefits: The luncheon raised more than $3,000 for the Walter E. Boehm Birth Defects Center.
