Camp Tikkun Olam serves seven area nonprofits

What: Thirteen teenagers in grades 7-9 participated in Camp Tikkun Olam, a one-week program prior to the beginning of the public school year that promotes citizenship and community service. Tikkun Olam is modern Hebrew for "repair the world." Camp is made possible through joint programming of the Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga and Chattanooga First Church of the Nazarene, and it is open to any teen regardless of religious background. The camp receives funding from Wal-mart and the Brainerd Kiwanis Club.

Benefits: The teens volunteered for The Urban League, Family Promise, Mary Walker Towers, La Paz, The Nature Center, The Salvation Army, Meals On Wheels, and Family Promise. They also learned about the Office of Multicultural Affairs, conservation programs at the Nature Center and assistance Family Promise gives to homeless families.
