Manchester Teen Actors Guild offers 'Stage Door' to open season

The Teen Actors Guild of the Millennium Repertory Company in Manchester, Tenn., will present "Stage Door" by Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman as the first show of the 2014 season.

The play centers on 16 young women who come to New York to study acting and find jobs. They live together in a boarding house, where their ambitions are revealed in a series of comedic scenes, such as the contrast between a girl without talent and the elderly actress whose days are over.

The central plot focuses on a young lady who struggles against odds. Another gives up in despair, one gets married, and one goes into pictures.

Other characters are the maid, her husband, a few gentlemen callers, a movie magnate and a young playwright.

Performances are at the Manchester Arts Center, 128 E. Main St., starting at 7:30 p.m. the next two Fridays and Saturdays, Jan. 17-18 and 24-25, and at 2 p.m. the next two Sundays, Jan. 19 and 26 (all times are Central).

Tickets are $10. For reservations, call 931-570-4489 or visit www.MillenniumRep.org.
