Frank BradyWould you like to be able to see and hear a deceased relative one more time? Maybe you'd like to leave a message for an infant grandchild or for a great-grandchild that hasn't been conceived yet to hear in the future?
A new website and app called Life's Time Capsule was created by two men with Chattanooga ties to help you do just that. It does just what the name implies by allowing users, for a monthly fee, to upload and save digital images, videos, audio files and text.
What exactly you choose to save is up to you, according to founder Frank Brady, a Baylor School graduate now living in Alabama. The inspiration for the app came after his own father's passing and a wish that he could hear his voice again.
"I started thinking about how we could potentially immortalize someone in a digital world," he says.
He reached out to Derek Markey, a Chattanooga resident who created an Internet marketing company called Climb the Page. Once the concept was hashed out, the two began figuring ways to make it work.
Through a partnership with e-commerce provider Amazon, digital media from Life's Time Capsule is stored in the cloud. It can also remain on your phone or computer, where you can download it at any time, Markey says.
Subscribers - which can include individuals, families, organizations, churches and businesses - can share access to whomever they want, and only those people can access whatever parts of the site you designate.
"It is 100 percent private," Brady says.
Subscribers do "have the option to punch out" and retrieve all their information, he says. A system also is created in the beginning to identify someone who can become the primary owner should the original person die.
Life's Time Capsule claims that your media, whether it is something from your past or something you create in the future, will be safe there for a 1,000 years.
"First of all, our customers are precious to us," Brady says. "I'm an engineer by trade, so I understand how all of that works and, yes, who knows what kind of techniques we will have in the future, but the whole concept is to protect this for many, many generations in the future."
Life's Time Capsule Pricing is based on a monthly rate with individual ($12.97), family ($19.97) or entity ($34.97) capsules. Additional storage space and additional members can be added for an additional fee, as well.
