Corey Smith has proven in the last three years to be a very popular performer locally, selling out Track 29 on numerous occasions and drawing a huge crowd at last year's Riverbend Festival.

He'll have another chance to pack them in when he headlines the third annual American Dream Concert, produced by Friends of the Festival and scheduled for May 1 at Engel Stadium.

Opening the show will be Remembering January, which will begin at 7 p.m. with Smith set to start at 8, according to Friends of the Festival talent and production coordinator Joe "Dixie" Fuller.

"Corey has a huge following here," he says. "His crowd last year at Riverbend was Florida Georgia Line big. I think he will be the perfect act in that place."

The American Dream Concerts raise funds for the Engel Foundation and the Veterans Entrepreneurship Program in the College of Business at the University of TTennessee at Chattanooga. The Engel Foundation strives to maintain and promote the historic baseball stadium, while the Veterans Entrepreneurship Program helps veterans learn the ins and outs of running a business with online classes and mentorships by successful Chattanooga business owners.

The concert coincides with the Armed Forces Parade, which will be downtown earlier in the day. Admission to the concert is $20, and tickets are available at Sticky Fingers, Zarzour's Cafe and online at riverbendfestival.com.

Smith is a Georgia native known for his high-energy live shows and raucous country sound. One of his earliest hits, "Twenty One," is also one of his most popular with fans. He released "Live in Chattanooga," his first live album in 2012, which was recorded at Track 29.

He has sold out three of his four shows at Track 29 in the last four years and was just shy of selling out the fourth one, according to Track 29 co-owner Monica Kinsey.

"He definitely has a fan base here," she says.

Here Come the Mummies headlined the American Dream Concert in 2014 while Charlie Daniels played the first year in 2013.
