Chef Shannon Johnson to direct Chattanooga State culinary center

Chef Shannon Johnson has been named director of the Michael P. Hennen Hospitality and Culinary Center at Chattanooga State Community College.

He is a graduate of Central High School and received an associate's degree in culinary arts from Johnson & Wales University. He has 25 years of experience in the food industry, including serving as an executive chef for Walt Disney World, vice president of culinary and menu strategy teams at Applebee's and executive chef/director of menu innovation for McDonald's Corp.

Cawood nominated for sound editors' award

Dustin Cawood, assistant professor of communication at Lee University, was recently nominated for a Motion Picture Sound Editor's Guild Golden Reel Award in the "Feature Animation" category. He was nominated for his work on Laika Entertainment's "The Boxtrolls."

Cawood won a Golden Reel award for his work on "Wall-E" in 2009. He was also nominated for six other Golden Reel awards for work as a sound effects editor on "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," "Toy Story 3," "Super 8," "Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol," "Cars 2" and "Monsters University." In 2014, Cawood won a Hollywood Post Alliance Award for his work on Pixar Animation Studios' "Toy Story Of Terror!"

Prior to joining Lee's Department of Communication Arts, Cawood spent 10 years in California, working in the film and television industry at Skywalker Sound and Pixar Animation Studios.

Collegiate honors

Lynette Pinson and Kassie Crabtree Britton were recently inducted into Southern Adventist University's chapter of Sigma Theta Tau honor society. Each received a master's degree in nursing with a family nurse practitioner emphasis from SAU in December.

The Corporation for National and Community Service recently recognized Cleveland State Community College's service-learning program, naming it to the 2014 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. This is the third time Cleveland State has been named to the national honor roll, first in 2010, then in 2013.
