Choral Arts of Chattanooga continues its 2014-15 season theme, "Wonderful Peace," with the Chattanooga premiere of Dan Forrest's "A Requiem for the Living" tonight. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 401 Gateway Ave.

This is not the first of Forrest's works to be presented by the classically trained vocalists. Returning audiences may recall his "stunning and thought-provoking 'The Work of Christmas'" as a highlight of the December concert, according to a news release.

This time, his five-movement "Requiem for the Living" will be performed by chamber orchestra and organ, led by Choral Arts artistic director Michael Devine.

According to the composer's website, "Requiem for the Living" is quickly becoming his best-known work. Within six months of its publication in early 2014, it had been performed across the U.S., including in New York's Carnegie Hall, and had its Canadian, European and South African premieres in April, July and September, respectively.

Also in tonight's program will be "Songs of Hope and Promise" by Linda Tutas Haugen.

Movement I, "The Eternal God," uses texts about God's love from Zephaniah, Jeremiah and Deuteronomy. Movement II, "A Quiet Place," refers to the need for spiritual rest using texts from Mark and Matthew. Movement III, "Children of Light," has texts from Ephesians, the Gospel of John and a verse from a poem by John H. Newman.

Tickets will be available at the door: $20 for adults, $10 for seniors, $5 for students, free for children 12 and younger.
