Want to feel better?

Get some sleep.

That's one of the tips Dr. Mehmet Oz told a sold-out crowd at a fundraiser for Erlanger's Children's Hospital this morning at Embassy Suites in East Brainerd.

Oz, a star of daytime television, radio talk show host, author, speaker and surgeon, made a special trip to Chattanooga, volunteering his time for the $40 million hospital, which is set to break ground in 2017.

He said before his nearly hour-long presentation that he likes to travel the world both out of his own desire to experience new things and places, but also to personally talk to people to discover what is on their minds.

"Terrorism is the No. 1 thing on people's minds right now," he said. "Even here. That surprised me. No. 2 is the election."

The top three issues facing Americans, according to his research and observations, involve weight control and the emotional stress that comes with it, lack of quality sleep and chronic pain.

"And, pain can influence poor sleep."

The primary message of Oz's presentation was that "We are blessed to live in this time," because of the quality of medical care and the scientific advancements that are being discovered at a rapid pace.
