George Quick, who has served as executive director at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre since 2008, told the board of directors Thursday he was resigning effective immediately.

CTC Board President Kim Jackson said by phone on Friday she would "respect George's request for privacy" and would not comment or offer any reasons for Quick's decision. She also declined to comment on whether the announcement was a surprise.

In a written statement, Jackson thanked Quick for his years of service and wished him luck on behalf of the board and volunteers.

"George informed me that he would be leaving the CTC for personal reasons," she said in the release. "We are grateful for the service he has given to the theater, and we respect his desire to keep the reasons for his decision private."

As to the future, she said, "We think we are in wonderful shape as a theater and we look forward to an exciting future."

She said a search committee would be formed immediately to find Quick's replacement. "Until then, it is business as usual. We have a wonderful play in 'Spamalot' there tonight and this weekend."

Before coming to the Chattanooga Theatre Center, Quick, 58, was executive director of the Z Space in San Francisco. The 40,000-square-foot CTC is home to the 380-seat Main Theatre and 200-seat Circle Theatre. Unlike a lot of community theaters, it owns and operates its own space, including rehearsal spaces, set and costume shops for creating new pieces, and storage space for housing the pieces for future shows.
