- What: The Salvation Army held its "Pathway of Hope" fundraising luncheon recently in the Imperial Ballroom of the Chattanooga Choo Choo. About 300 guests heard music by The Brassworks ensemble from Jericho Brass Band and from soloist Deborah Gunn. Maj. Robert Lyle, new Salvation Army area commander, was the featured speaker.

- Benefits: Pathway of Hope ministry is designed to help families who commit to breaking an intergenerational cycle of poverty. A Salvation Army social worker will partner with single parents who commit to the program, helping them set education, employment and family goals.

According to Salvation Army statistics, one in six Americans live in poverty and the longer a child lives in poverty, the greater the chance that the child will remain in poverty as an adult.
