R&B star Usher is asking for Chattanooga's help in stocking the art supply closets of Hamilton County Schools' classrooms.

Usher - known as Usher Raymond IV when he lived in Chattanooga and attended Dalewood Middle School - posted social media requests last night asking his fans to bring all types of art supplies to First Tennessee Pavilion on Carter Street from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

"I believe all students should have access to art and music programs in schools," the singer said in his video message. "It's so important as gateways for our students to think, feel and express themselves creatively, to discover who they are."

Everything from crayons and glue sticks to paints and canvases is needed. The singer promises he will match all donations made today.

This evening's donation drive is part of Usher's hometown visit in conjunction with State Farm's Neighborhood Sessions concert series. He will perform an invitation-only concert Friday night on the grounds of Dalewood Middle School to benefit Hamilton County Schools.
