Maria Brigidi

Maria Brigidi, 84, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, in a local hospital.

Formerly of Great Neck Long Island, N.Y., she had lived in Chattanooga for five years. She was a Bible believing Christian.

Mrs. Brigidi was preceded in death by her husband, Arrone Franco Brigidi.

Survivors include her loving son, Joseph Anzalone, of Red Bank; grandsons, Joseph Daniel Anzalone and Joshua Anzalone, both of Signal Mountain; granddaughter, Laura Marie Anzalone, of Signal Mountain.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel with Al Ball officiating.

Interment will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Luther Burch Sr., formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009, in Pittsburg, Pa.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Ricky Jones officiating.

Wynelle Byers, 68, of Lookout Valley, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, in a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Atkins officiating.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, West.

Donald Evans

Donald Earl Evans, 78, of Hixson, ended his courageous battle with cancer and heart disease on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009.

He was a member of Hixson Presbyterian Church and had been retired from Southern Products Co. for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus Motlow Evans and Anita Jones Evans.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Faye McDonough Evans; son, Donald E. Evans Jr. and wife Holley, of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Mary Anita Evans McMillan; and husband, James, of Ooltewah; son, James McDonough Evans, of Atlanta; five grandchildren, James Franklin McMillan III, of Charleston, S.C., William Evans McMillan and fiancée Brenda Rogers, and Andrew Hayes McMillan, of Ooltewah, Rachel Anna Evans and Christopher Leonid Evans, of Dallas, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Rileigh Michelle McMillan; one sister, Joyce Evans Hill, of Signal Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral with Pastor Robert Johnson officiating.

Interment will follow at Griffith Cemetery in Marion County, Tenn.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 14, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

George Cosby Fontaine Jr., 81, of Georgetown, S.C., died Friday, July 24, 2009.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Our Lady of the Mount Catholic Church, 1227 Scenic Highway, Lookout Mountain, Ga.

Deborah Fowler

Deborah Fowler, 39, of Hixson, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009.

She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and was a registered nurse.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Karol Fowler.

Survivors include her son, Jacob Joseph Barnes; father, Joseph Fowler; brother, David Fowler; sisters, Resa Bradeen, Jill Vawter and Mary Mosley.

A funeral mass will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father Mike Creson as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Hamilton County Memorial Park.

Betty Jenny

Brittania Elizabeth "Betty" Straub Jenny, 88, of Chattanooga, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009.

She was a former member of Highland Park Baptist Church, Calvary Independent Baptist Church, and Central Baptist Church Woodmore and attended faithfully while she was able. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Sept. 23, 1920 and raised her family there. At the time of her husband's retirement the family moved to Chattanooga.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

She never knew a stranger and was loved by all who knew her. The family would like to thank Life Care Center of Red Bank and Hospice of Chattanooga for their care and kindness to our precious mother.

She was preceded in death by husband, Orville Jenny, of Chattanooga; son, William Jenny, of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter, Brenda Jenny Carpenter, of Chattanooga, parents, Clarence Straub and Bertha "Britty" Cornwell Straub; and two brothers.

She is survived by four daughters, Sylvia Jenny (Lindsey) Scott, Janine Jenny (Gene) Robinson, Nola Marie Jenny Honeycutt, Julia Jenny Smith (Joseph), all of Chattanooga; two sons, David (Peggy) Jenny, of Cincinnati, Ohio and John Jenny. of Chattanooga; son-in-law, Gerald Carpenter, of Chattanooga, daughter-in-law, Marilyn Dixon Jenny, of Cincinnati, Ohio; 32 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel, with the Rev. Cliff Roth officiating.

Active pallbearers will be David, Johnny, Steve, Woody, Joshua and Jonathan.

Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gladys Newman

Gladys E. Newman, 81, of East Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at Memorial Hospital after a battle with cancer.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1928 in Ooltewah, where she attended both elementary and high school and was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. She retired from Erlanger Hospital in 1985.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Nellie Lee; two brothers, Clyde and William "Dub"; sister, Lorene McClain, and an infant brother, L.J. Lee.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Otis Quintas Newman; sister, Lenis Willerson, Ooltewah; brother, Benjamin Lee Jr., Ooltewah; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Toby Brogdon officiating.

Interment will follow at Old McDonald Cemetery on Snow Hill Road, Ooltewah.

Billy Jack "Bill" Robertson, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. in the East Brainerd Chapel with Rev. William Proctor officiating.

Burial will follow with military honors at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Brenda K. Smelley, 67, of Hixson, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009.

Brenda was a member of Mile Straight Baptist Church. She loved the outdoors and camping with her husband and she had an interest in antique furniture.

Her father, Blake E. Wesley Jr., preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Tommy Smelley; son, Brian Smelley; mother, Lillie Mae Wesley; brother and sister-in-law, Lavelle and Connie Wesley and a nephew, Tyler Wesley.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Mile Straight Baptist Church with Tom Goss officiating.

Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Bradley Stump

Bradley Dwight Stump, 53, of Harrison, formerly from Jackson County, Ala., died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at McMinn County, Tenn.

He was born April 23, 1956.

Mr. Stump worked for Industrial Boiler Mechanical and was also a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

Survived by wife, Vicki Stump, of Harrison; daughters, Bethany and her fiancé, Casey, of East Ridge, Candace, of Harrison; son, Victor, of Harrison; brothers, David (Jan) Stump, of Florence, Ala., Jeff Stump, of Macclenny, Fla.; sister, Sherri Young, of Pierce, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral was 3 p.m. CDT Thursday, Aug. 13, at Rudder Funeral Home Chapel with Sr. Pastor Eric Stills and Pastor Eric Dill officiating.

Interment: 10 a.m. CDT Saturday, Aug. 15, at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens.

Bobby Brown

RICHARD CITY - Robert L. "Bobby" Brown, 84, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at his home.

Son of the late Sewell and Anna Mae Raulston Brown, he was the middle child of seven children, graduate of South Pittsburg High School, a US Army Sgt. during WWII, a retired, 41-year employee of Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative and song leader and member at Richard City Church of Christ.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Huckabee Brown.

He is survived by his brother, Jere Raymond (Mary Jane) Brown, of South Pittsburg; and his sister, Edith "Rose" Brown Phillips, of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel today, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m. CDT officiating will be Gardner Scott, Charles Crouch and Billy Watkins.

DAYTON - Joe Green Newell, 81, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at Rhea Medical Center.

He was vice president of Dillard Construction Co., served in the U.S. Air Force and member of Dayton First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by parents, Hubert and Myrtle Green Newell; one brother; and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Roberts Newell; son, J. Stephen Newell Sr.; daughter, Janet (Tony) Sexton; grandchildren, Charles (Linnie) Sexton, J. Stephen (Tricia) Newell Jr., Andrew Sexton, Angela Newell; great-grandchildren, Haley Sexton and Grace Newell; brother, Richard Newell; and several loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Huchings Moser; parents, Hugh G. Moser and Carrie McDonald Moser; sister, Mary Howard, California; brother, Hugh G. Moser Jr., Florida; and brother, Paul Moser, Chattanooga.

He is survived by daughter, Judy (Paul) Hegstrom, Colorado; and son, Kenneth (Donna) Moser, Texas; also, sister, Betty Payne, Chattanooga; and brother, Raymond Moser, Hixson; and by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A joint service will be conducted for Ben and Frances Moser at Chattanooga Memorial Park, Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at 10 a.m.
