Red Bank Mayor Joe Glasscock said city workers will install rumble strips, small strips on street surfaces designed to create a noise inside a car, in several areas within the next few weeks in the city's latest attempt to thwart speeders.
"Speed cameras are not the only thing we need to do to call attention to speeding," he said.
Mr. Glasscock says he's tired of getting flak for the town's traffic cameras, which can result in tickets for drivers who run red lights. Installing the rumble strips should show that the cameras are in place for good reason, not just for added revenue, he said.
"All you have to do is obey the law," Mr. Glasscock said. "The only ones complaining are the ones who break the law."
