Bicyclists are mourning the loss of a bike shop owner and avid bike-to-work supporter.
David Leonard Meek, 51, died Friday as a result of injuries sustained in a bicycle accident on Ashland Terrace, police said. The Red Bank resident and owner of Tennessee Tool and Machine Works and Privateer Bicycles was buried this morning. Dozens of cyclists escorted the hearse to the Chattanooga Memorial Park Cemetery.
The married father of two was a member of Chattanooga Bicycle Club. A throng of cyclists pedaled in front of the hearse carrying Mr. Meek's remains.
Chattanooga police continue to investigate the death. Mr. Meek was killed when a truck passing on his left snatched a bag on the side of his bicycle, pulling him into the roadway.
