Budget deficit continues growing, Ramsey says

Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey said today that the state's budget deficit continues to grow and another $200 million in cuts is needed.

But he did promise one thing won't happen as the Tennessee General Assembly looks at cuts.

"There won't be any tax increases," Mr. Ramsey said.

Speaking to the Southeast Tennessee Political Action Committee at the Doubletree Hotel, Mr. Ramsey said the deficit has grown from $1.2 billion to $1.4 billion.

But he said Tennessee still doesn't face problems like other states including Virginia, which has a $3 billion deficit.
