Dantzler said that though the school's capacity is only 1,650 students, the student population currently stands at 1,976.About 2,000 students started classes at East Hamilton School this morning, as Hamilton County Schools kicked off the 2010-2011 school year.
East Hamilton is on track to surpass Soddy-Daisy High School as the largest school in the district.
Officials also anticipate enrollment growth in the entire school system over last year, and should have first-day estimates later this evening.
