Bredesen establishes council to benefit soldiers

NASHVILLE - Gov. Phil Bredesen has signed an executive order establishing a council that will benefit military service members, veterans and their families.

Bredesen signed the order Tuesday to coincide with Operation Immersion, a two-day military training initiative developed for behavioral health care providers.

It focuses on military culture and issues unique to those who have served in combat and experienced one or multiple deployments.

The council is charged with helping coordination to meet mental health needs.

Bredesen said there are about 500,000 veterans in Tennessee.
