Rhea man dies in Highway 30 single-car crash

A 22-year-old motorist died Wednesday in Meigs County after his car went airborne over an embankment and eventually crashed into a tree.

Tyler Reed, who was not wearing a seat belt, was the only one in his 1999 Ford F-150, and there were no other cars involved, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatcher.

Reed was a resident of Grandview, Tenn., in Rhea County, the dispatcher said.

The truck was traveling westbound on state Highway 30 near the McMinn County line when it veered into the eastbound lane, left the highway, went airborne, traveled down a steep embankment and hit a tree, the dispatcher said.

Police responded about 5:30 p.m. Reed was flown to UT Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, the dispatcher said.

Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash and the investigation is ongoing, the dispatcher said.
