2:00 DRILL: Vandy, betting and dogs

Wow, what's next a drawing?

At the beginning of the week, it looked like Vandy was going to land Gus Malzahn as its head coach,

Malzahn backed out and it looked like Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin was next.

Well, we're four days later and nothing concrete about Franklin. And now comes news that according to FootballRumorMill.com, Vandy has interest in Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain.

I know some Alabama fans who were downright giddy at the thought of Malzahn leaving Auburn. Those same folks would be almost as happy if McElwain gets the Vandy job. I am kidding - mostly.

Vick, Brady lead voting

Our NFL friend Ted has a lot of his extra Christmas coin riding on tonight's San Diego-San Francisco game.

Little background is in order: Ted has a couple of tots and a good job. He's pretty good dude who has been known to make the occasional wager or three or five a day.

Like most that make the occasional wager or three or five a day, there have been hot streaks and cold fronts for Ted. He withstood a frigid November and has made some hay in recent weeks, including a pretty impressive doubleheader sweep on Monday night.

That said, Ted loves the 49ers and the points. I don't see it, I'm just telling what I heard.

Not quite to the dog days

Mike Vick, who is arguably the MVP of the NFL this season, said he would like to have a dog someday.

For every other athlete everywhere, this is not a big deal. For Vick, who spent 18 months in prison because of his connections to dog fighting rings, the desire to own a dog gets a response from the president of the Humane Society.

Wayne Pacelle said he thought it was "too early" for Vick to own a dog and that after Vick's probation ends it could be a good thing for Vick and his family to have a dog.
