Chattanooga: Lawyer: Not ready for setting trial date in Signal shooting

The lawyer representing a woman charged with trying to shoot and kill her ex-husband last summer as he worked in his Signal Mountain chiropractic clinic said today they are not yet ready to set a trial date.

"We're not far enough in the process to know if a trial date is going to be necessary," said attorney Myrlene Marsa, who represents Tina Marie Loher.

The statement made in Hamilton County Criminal Court this morning is indicative that a plea deal could be worked out, but neither Ms. Marsa nor prosecutors gave any details of such a deal.

Ms. Loher has been incarcerated since the day police say she shot at her ex-husband, Dr. Terrance "Terry" Loher, while their two daughters sat in the car outside his chiropractic office.

A general sessions judge at a preliminary hearing just days after the shooting raised her bond, saying that he was worried about Ms. Loher's mental state.

Investigators had found her diary in her home close to Knoxville in which Ms. Loher wrote that she believed that her ex-husband was possessed by demons and that he should die so he would stop making her life a "living hell."

Mr. Loher sustained a gunshot wound only in his left leg.

The two at the time were embroiled in a bitter custody battle over their two daughters.
