Mary Allen

Mary Elizabeth Morrison Allen, 90, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, in an area health care facility.

Mrs. Allen was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and was of the Catholic faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Allen.

Survivors include her stepdaughter, Carol (Walter) Penick, of Dayton, Ohio; sister, Mary Catherine Stanfield, of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Monsignor Al Humbrecht as celebrant and Father Mike Creson as co-celebrant.

Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ann Barnes

Ann Jean Barnes, 85, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Ann was born in New York, raised her family in Pennsylvania and lived in Chattanooga with her sister, Clara and daughter, Kathryn the past 26 years. Ann was a member of the Catholic Church. Ann worked with Alcoa Aluminum Lab during World War II and wrote for the Monroeville Pennsylvania Gazette. Ann managed a fabric store in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was a member of Friends of the Chickamauga National Park. Ann was an avid quilter, cook, book enthusiast and an adventurer. Her sister, Clara, was her best friend and travel companion for her lifetime.

She was the wife of her late husband, John William Barnes Sr., and the daughter of the late Bernard F. Shaughnessy and Helen Ruth Gallagher. She also was preceded in death by her sisters, Clara C. Shaughnessy and Mary Gedman, and brothers, Bernard and John Shaughnessy.

Survivors include her son, retired Col. John William Barnes Jr., and wife, Judith, of Ashton, Md., and Seoul, Korea, and their two sons, John David Barnes and wife, Emma, of Ashton, Md., and Mark William and wife, Laura, of Seoul, Korea; son, Michael Joseph Barnes (retired NFL player with Baltimore Colts) and wife, Hollie, of Guys Mills, Pa., and their children, Jessica Kyle Barnes and Erin Renee Barnes, of Portland, Ore., and Michael Ryan Barnes, of St. Augustine, Fla..; daughter, Kathryn Schiavon Barnes (with Carpenters Local #74)and her children, Dennis Fredrick Schiavon, Daniel Ian Schiavon and Branden Kurtis Schiavon, all of Chattanooga; and Ann's brother, Joseph Shaughnessy, and wife, Ann, and their children, Maureen, Joseph, Patricia, Michael, Kathleen and James, of Crown Point, Ind.

A gathering of family and friends will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace.

Evelyn Batson

Evelyn Rose Dickinson Batson, 91, died peacefully at her home Friday afternoon, Feb. 12, 2010, surrounded by family and friends.

A native of Mercer, Tenn., she had lived in Chattanooga for 65 years. She was a faithful member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church since its inception. Evelyn enjoyed traveling, painting and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Glass and Mary Hudson Dickinson; infant daughter, Jane Evelyn Batson; and sisters, Virginia D. Frey and Lois D. Roberts.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 69 years, Robert J. Batson Sr.; sons, Robert J. Batson Jr. and James A. (Susan) Batson; grandchildren, Laurel Batson (Jim) Boles, Robert J. (Jane) Batson III and Todd A. (Lauren) Batson; great-grandchildren, Ashley Boles, Brett Boles, Christopher Boles, Jack Batson, Sara Catherine Batson and Thomas Walker Batson; brother, John G. (Virginia) Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff at Life Care Center of Red Bank and Hospice of Chattanooga and special caretaker, Nolan Butler.

Rebecca Bedoit

Rebecca Irene Bedoit, 89, of Soddy Daisy, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010.

Rebecca was a native and longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. She was a graduate of Chattanooga High School and the University of Chattanooga. Rebecca was a devoted, true and faithful member of St. Marks United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, William C. Bedoit III, and a grandson, Christian Johan Bedoit.

Rebecca is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Dr. William C. Bedoit Jr.; a son, Thomas Miller Bedoit; grandchildren, Hans Wolfgang Bedoit and Thomas Miller Bedoit II; siblings, Jo Ruth Reel, Willie Frances Atkin, Madeline Clyde Baker and Herbert Miller Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 701 Mississippi Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37405.

Services for Rebecca will follow at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Marks United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Anderson officiating.

Burial will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Eway Bowman Jr., 84, of Ooltewah, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010.

Sylvia Caffey, 45, passed Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at a local hospital.

Beatrice Campbell

Mary Beatrice Campbell, 89, of Hixson, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010.

Beatrice was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a faithful member of Hixson First Baptist and later Falling Water Baptist. Beatrice was a lover of nature who enjoyed gardening, and watching birds and butterflies.

She was born in White County, Tenn., on Oct. 18, 1920, to the late James Franklin and Cora Mae Davis Sapp. Beatrice received nurse's training at Erlanger Nursing School from 1940-1942. She later contributed to the World War II effort by working in a military defense plant in Ohio. After returning to Chattanooga, she worked as a nurse at the tuberculosis hospital, and then in the 1980s, she was a nurse at the Baylor School infirmary.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Juanita Cookson and Geneva Meeks.

Beatrice is survived by her husband of 67 years, L.R. "Rube" Campbell; two sons, James W.T. Campbell, of Chattanooga, and Gary (Donna) Campbell, of Soddy-Daisy; daughter, Denise (Joe Alan) McGee, of Tulsa, Okla.; 11 grandchildren, James W.T. (Tracey) Campbell Jr., Misty Campbell, Joe (Kellie) Campbell, Jon Campbell, Laura (Josh) Stephenson, Sarah Ramsey, Jessica McGee, Corrie McGee, Tessa McGee, Lauren McGee and John McGee; four great-grandchildren, Hope Campbell, Kelsey Moreno, Hayley Moreno, Leah Campbell and Noah Stephenson; three brothers, Bob Sapp, Lloyd Sapp and Ronnie Sapp, all of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2:30 p.m. today at the North Chapel.

Services for Beatrice will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at the North Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Taylor and her son-in-law, the Rev. Joe Alan McGee officiating.

Earl Capehart

Earl Ray "Ronnie" Capehart, 79, of LaFayette, Ga., passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, in a local hospital.

He was born May 5, 1930, to the late Clarence Ray Capehart and Gertrude Hardy Dake.

Mr. Capehart was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War where he was also a former prisoner of war for 18 months.

Being a vender and trader at the former 23rd Street Flea Market and the Trion Trade Day was among his favorite hobbies. He was of the Baptist faith.

His brothers, Fred Eugene Capehart and James Carl Capehart, and stepson, Billy Hull, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Kinsey Capehart; stepchildren, Bruce H. Kinsey, David Wayne Kinsey and James Thomas (Belinda) Kinsey, all of LaFayette; Gloria (Eddie) Hammontree, of Rossville; sister, Mary Faye Hasting, of Flat Rock, Ala.; brother Dennis "Dent" (Joyce) Capehart, of Georgetown; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with his nephew, the Rev. Robert K. Schrader officiating. Full military honors will be provided.

Harmon Colby

Harmon R. Colby, 96, of Chattanooga, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, with his family at his side.

He was born in Peek, Okla., to Harmon E. and Abbie R. Colby. His grandfather, the late Joseph R. Colby, was the founder of Colby, Kan.

Mr. Colby served with distinction in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Lockheed-Martin in Chattanooga as a tool and die inspector and was an avid gardener who loved to share the fruits of his labor -- especially his famous tomatoes.

He was a longtime member of Brainerd Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Gertrude L. Hurn and Lavona Della Stamps; and a grandson, Matt Reed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy "Dot" Clonts Colby; children Linda C. Thompson, Bob (Joy) Colby and Nancy Reed (Bob) Carroll; brother, Chester Colby, Grand Haven, Mich.; grandchildren, Christopher J. Thompson, Missy Brooks, David M. Thompson, Beth Locke, Lauren H. Colby and Steven W. Colby; and great-grandchildren, Cassie Duncan and Tura Thompson.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 404 S. Moore Road, with the Rev. Barry Wilks officiating.

Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery, McDonald, Tenn.

Julian Dobbins

Julian Dobbins, 69, of Chattanooga, departed this life Monday, Feb. 15, 2010.

He was born in Chattanooga to the late Vance Alexander and Violet Inez Dobbins, and was preceded in death by his brothers, Samuel and Vance Dobbins Jr.

Julian served his country in the U.S. Army and was owner/operator of The Body Shop in Rossville for many years. He was past president of Street Toys Car Club of Chattanooga and a member of Unity Baptist Church in Rossville.

Survivors include his daughters, Wendy (Rick) Clowers, of Rossville, and Ruthann (Jason) Lepard, of Carrollton, Ga.; sisters, Leona Morrow, of Chattanooga, and Billie Lusk, of Decatur, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, in the chapel with the Rev. Steve Fletcher officiating.

Interment will follow in Chickamauga City Cemetery.

Ida Friddell

Ida Ruth Friddell, 78, of Ooltewah went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010.

She was a member of New Shepard Hill Baptist Church.

Jerry Graf

Jerry Nicholas Graf died at home Monday, Feb.15, 2010, after a battle with cancer.

He was born in Owensboro, Ky., on Aug.1, 1938. He attended the University of Alabama for four years where he majored in electrical engineering. He held many positions with LePage's Inc., a consumer products manufacturing company, that he joined in Nov. 27, 1967, and retired on Dec. 31,1991. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Graf was chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president of the company. He was a avid golfer and played almost every day during his retirement for the past 20 years. Since moving to Chattanooga, Mr. and Mrs. Graf have been members of Our Lady Of The Mount Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry "Jay" Graf Jr.; parents, Albert and Virginia Graf; and his brother, Larry Graf, all of Owensboro, Ky.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betsy Graf, Chattanooga; daughters, Lynn Slack (Hugh), Pittsburgh, Pa., and Cathy Graf, Chattanooga; and three grandchildren, Shelby Slack (Christie), Pittsburgh, and Paige and Olivia Gregerson, Chattanooga.

The funeral mass for Mr. Graf will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Our Lady Of The Mount Catholic Church, 1227 Scenic Highway, Lookout Mountain, Ga.

Interment of Mr. Graf will be at the Memorial Garden located at Our Lady Of The Mount Catholic Church.

Janiese Hudgins

Janiese Lynette Byrd Hudgins, 23 days old, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010.

She was born Jan. 21, 2010, to her loving parents, Jason Hudgins and Antonisha Byrd Hudgins.

She is survived by her mother and father; three sisters, Anneliese Hudgins, Jakyla Davenport and Antoniece Hudgins; and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Chattanooga Memorial Park with Pastor Melvin Thompson officiating.

The body of Janiese Lynette Byrd Hudgins will lie in state after noon today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.

Joyce Knight

Joyce Faye Knight, 72, of Chattanooga, left this walk of life surrounded by family and friends only to be welcomed by her Heavenly Father on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010.

She was born on March 25, 1937, to the late James and Omia Bennett in Chattanooga. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church and the WMU. Joyce enjoyed reading her bible and listening to gospel music, as well as playing bingo, cooking and family gatherings. Joyce was also an avid bowler and collector of Elephants and Angels.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd Eugene Hayes Sr., and two infant children.

Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Gary Knight; five children, Floyd "Bucky" (Felecia) Hayes, of East Ridge, David (Amalee) Hayes, of Rossville, James Hayes, of Chattanooga, Jerry Hayes, of Chattanooga, and Heather Knight, of Rossville; 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Col. Carl Lamberth

Col. Carl J. Lamberth, 91, of Chattanooga passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at his home.

He was a long time resident of the Chattanooga Area. He was a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church and the Beckman Sunday School Class. Col. Lamberth was a graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J., and the Command and General Staff College at Fort Levenworth, Kan.

He served as a captain during World War II and remained in the reserve, serving many tours of active duty and was promoted to Colonel in 1968. He was retired in 1974 with 31 years of service and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. He was a lifetime member of the American Officers Association of America and the Reserve Officers Association.

A past president of the Chattanooga Downtown Lions Club, he was presented the Melvin Jones Award 6 times and the Lion of the Decade in 1987.

He was a past member of the Walden Club, the Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club and the Lakeside Club at Arnold Air Force Base.

He was also employed and retired from two local companies: Container Corp of America where he was plant manager of the Corrigated Division and from Chattem Drug where he was purchasing manager. He was also the owner of Col. Carl J. Lamberth Investment Service.

Survivors include one stepson; three stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Dot Elliott, of East Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.

Juanita McCay

Juanita Christine Owen McCay died peacefully in her sleep at home Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, and immediately entered heaven to join her beloved Lord Jesus Christ and her heavenly family.

Juanita was born on July 27, 1916, in Troup, Texas to Frank Stone Owen and Ethel Mae Tyson. She was educated at North Texas University in Denton, Texas, and became a career elementary education teacher for 35 years. Juanita married the love of her life, the Rev. L.B. McCay and they were married just less than fifty years. When the Rev. McCay passed away Juanita moved to Chattanooga to be near her daughter and family and resided here for over 20 years.

She was a longtime member of Silverdale Baptist Church where her pastor and dear friend was the Rev. Herschel Woodburn. During her years at Silverdale she was thrilled to travel with her church group to Israel for an extended tour. While there, the Rev. Woodburn rebaptised Juanita in the Jordan River, which was so meaningful to her. In her later years, she joined East Ridge Baptist which was her church home until her death.

Juanita was a prayer warrior and prayed daily for her family and friends. She was a gifted singer and piano player and loved the old time Baptist hymns. While living here she became interested in acting and had roles in three movies including playing the role of Sandra Bullock's grandmother in "Love Potion No. 9." She continued acting in television commercials including Coca-Cola and First Federal Savings and Loan as well as doing print modeling and industrial training films. Juanita loved doing this work and she always felt so special that she could do this in her retirement years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, the Rev. L.B. McCay; and four sisters, Katherine Wilkerson, Mary Lou Covaness, Helen McWhorter and Louise Owens; and dearly loved son-in-law, Lloyd Carver III.

Survivors include her precious son, Walter Bell McCay of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Kathy Carver, of Ooltewah; greatly loved grandchildren, Michael (Teresa) Carver, Brian Craig Carver, Walt Thompson McCay, Blake McCay and Matthew McCay, Dawn Thompson McCay Ziehe, Tisa McCay, Angela McCay and Mikala McCay; nine great-grandchildren; and granddogs, Josie and Daisy.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, Feb. 17, 2010, at the funeral home with Dr. Ken Roberts officiating.

Visitation will be 15 minutes prior to the service.

Burial will be in San Benito, Texas.

Kenneth Metcalf Jr.

LTC Kenneth Bertram Metcalf Jr. (USAF Retired), 97, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, in Red Bank.

A resident of Chattanooga for more than 50 years, Mr. Metcalf was born in Fountain City, Tenn., and grew up in the Knoxville area where he graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

Mr. Metcalf served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II serving as A-4 for the 11th Army Air Force in Alaska and as director of supply and maintenance for the Ontario Army Air Field in California. He was awarded the American Defense Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal for the Aleutian Campaign, The American Theater Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1972.

Mr. Metcalf was the first manager of Tennessee's first electric cooperative, Lincoln County Electric Membership Corporation and the first manager of the Appalachian Electric Cooperative. After moving to Chattanooga in 1955, he became a member of the Chattanooga Exchange Club and served as its president in 1957. He retired in 1972 after 28 years with the Tennessee Valley Authority, primarily as a writer and administrative officer in the Office of the Manager of Power. He was a member of the Red Bank presbyterian Church PCA.

Mr. Metcalf was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lois Rader Metcalf; and brother, George Edwin Metcalf.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Isolde Metcalf; son, Thomas G. Metcalf, of Knoxville; daughter, Christina (and Timothy) Oswald, of Calabasas, Calif.; grandchildren, John, Madeline and Luci; and nieces, Lois Metcalf, of Rochester, N.Y., and April (and Bob) Guest, of Ashland, Miss..

A private memorial service was held at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, with the Rev. Everett Gossett officiating and was followed by interment in Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville.

Richard Peaslee

Richard Selby Peaslee, beloved husband and cherished friend, passed away Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, in a local health care facility.

A native of Worcester, Mass., Richard was born on April 8, 1930, to the late Philip and Evelyn Peaslee.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gigi Batu Peaslee, a native of Turkey; his sisters, Joy Nadon and Judith (Alan) Gustafson, of Worcester; and nephews, Brett Boucher and Eric Gustafson. Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Atilla (Christa) Batu; his nephews-in-law, John and Kerim Batu; and a niece-in-law, Suzan Batu, of Darmstadt, Germany. Richard also leaves behind many friends, who will miss him sorely, especially Richard Brewer, Henry Groseclose, Hugh Walker, Everett Hixson and David Kling.

Retired from the U.S. Navy as Chief Petty Officer (Radio Man), most of Richard's service was spent on ships in the 6th Fleet. His final posting, to Chattanooga, led to the Peaslees choosing to make the city their home. Richard was associated with Rossville Yarn and the Better Business Bureau before joining Rock City Gardens, from which he retired, for second time, in 1995.

A longtime American history buff, with a special interest in the Civil War, Richard graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a B.A. in history. Over the years, he spent time at each of the national Civil War parks and museums.

An active community volunteer, Richard's service extended from tutoring at Normal Park Elementary School to serving on the Chattanooga Sports Committee. He also belonged to Red Bank Masonic Lodge 717, Alhambra Shrine of Chattanooga and the Alhambra Legion of Honor. In addition, Richard was a 32nd-degree Chattanooga Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the High Twelve Club.

An active member of Second Presbyterian Church, Richard was an ordained elder, who gave his time generously to many church projects.

Funeral services for Mr. Peaslee will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 700 Pine St., Chattanooga, at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, with Rev. Perry McCallen officiating.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.

Interment will take place at Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.

Diana Marie Perkins, 41, of Hixson, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, walking in her new life with God.

Living life to the fullest, she could make you laugh or cry; never meeting a stranger and making her mark. She struggled with demons with her life that she could just not fight off.

She was preceded in death by her father, J.C. Perkins.

She is survived by her mother, Marie-Luise "Molly" Perkins; son, Aaron D. (Dan); daughter, Brionna Omodeo (Jimmy); and sister, Santra McClure and niece, Emily. She had two closest friends, Pam Thornhill and Wendy White. She also had several uncles, aunts and cousins.

Robert P. Scott Jr., 81, of Signal Mountain, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010. at his home.

He was President of R. P. Scott Contracting Co. and graduated from Baylor School and Georgia Tech where he was a member of Sigma Chi.

A son of the late Robert P. and Mary Rogers Scott, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Odom Scott; three children, Valerie, of Charleston, S.C.; Rob, of Soddy-Daisy, and Ben and wife, Elizabeth, of Atlanta; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-granddaughters.

Joie Ann Leonard Killingsworth Shuler passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, in New Orleans after a courageous battle with leukemia.

She was daughter of the late John Lewis and Rosemary Siragusa Leonard; the loving mother of Jason Adam Killingsworth; and sister of Craig William Leonard and Clayton Lewis Leonard. She was born Dec. 25, 1955, in New Orleans and lived in Chattanooga for the past 25 years.

George F. "Fred" Smith, 67, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at his residence.

Fred was retired from EPB after 32 years of service and was a member of IBEW Local #175. He was an avid hunter and NASCAR fan and loved to ride motorcycles.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Smith.

Madge Taylor

Madge Pease Taylor, 90, went aloft Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, Fla.

She was born in Chattanooga, on December 29, 1919, to Harlan A. Pease and Webbie Green Pease. After living her whole life in Chattanooga, Madge moved to St. Augustine in 2007 to live with her daughter, Sandra.

A graduate of City High School in Chattanooga, Madge attended Edmonson Business College and started working at Southern Auto as a bookkeeper before graduating. Widowed early in life, she continued working there for many years until the business closed and then went on to work at several other businesses in Chattanooga, Scholtz Tannery, Rapro, Southern Supply & Extinguisher and Southern Auto Radiator, always doing bookkeeping before her retirement in 2001. Madge always excelled at math and finances. She made sure that her children had good memories of family life and many vacations were spent in Florida in the Daytona area visiting the beach and local attractions.

Madge was a member of Avondale Baptist Church for many years before moving to Brainerd in the early 1960s and joining Brainerd Baptist Church. She was active in the church during her younger years and enjoyed many trips with the Keenagers at Brainerd Baptist Church. Even after she moved to Florida to be with her daughter, Madge remained a member of Brainerd Baptist Church. In St. Augustine, Madge attended the Council on Aging while her health permitted.

Madge is survived by her daughter, Sandra Taylor, of St. Augustine, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Virginia Hunt, of Harriman, Tenn., and Edna Plemons, of Ringgold, Ga.; and brother-in-law, Harry Plemons of Ringgold.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaston Raul Taylor; youngest daughter, Patricia Mae Taylor; her parents, Harlan and Webbie Pease; sister, Hazel Manz; brother, Clarence Pease; brothers-in-law, Jack Manz, Alvin Taylor, Harold Taylor, Winston Howell; and sisters-in-law Lillian Howell, Dot Taylor and Emalyne Taylor.

Stacy Allison Vandergriff, a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was 51.

Stacy was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area where she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. After graduating from Hixson High School, she procured an associate's degree in Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University. She retired from UNUM.

CLEVELAND -- Virginia Clayton Greene, 86, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010.

A quiet, gentle wife, mother and sister, she will be greatly missed by all knew and loved her.

Mrs. Greene was a lifelong resident of Cleveland. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Glen W. Greene, and her parents, George S. Clayton and Marjorie Ledford Clayton.

She was a member of North Cleveland Baptist Church for many years and for the last several years she was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland and the Gleaners Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Greene is survived by her two children, Gary W. Greene (Dianne), of Cleveland, and Debbie Watson (David), of Lookout Mountain; and her grandchildren, April Perry (Tom) ,of Murfreesboro, Stephanie Pariani (Brian), of Houston, Texas, Brent Greene (Kate), of Westminster, Colo., Clay Watson (April), of Lookout Mountain, and Katie Tipton (Taylor), of Arlington, Va. She was a loving great-grandmother to six great-granddaughters. She also is survived by her sisters, Patsy Carroll (Max) and Judy Hooper (DeWayne), all of Cleveland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of her life and homegoing will be held Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Gibson and Morty Lloyd officiating.

Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Clay Watson, Brent Greene, Tom Perry, Taylor Tipton, Lee Glover, David Carroll and John Carroll serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

CHICKAMAUGA -- Patrick Valentine Cannon, 66, laid claim to his Promise of Salvation and went home to his Savior on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, after battling cancer.

He was a man who was in love with God and his family. He made loving them his highest priority and his devotion to them was apparent to everyone who knew him. He will be desperately missed.

Pat was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Cannon.

Johnny Cook

ROSSVILLE -- Johnny B. Cook, 82, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010.

He was born in Henagar, Ala., to the late Vurgal and Hester Leona Cook, and was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Faye Cook.

He retired from the city of Rossville after many years of service as a police officer and sanitation worker there.

Johnny loved his family most of all, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, and loved watching NASCAR. He will be greatly missed by his family. He always had a smile on his face and a great sense of humor that brought pleasure to all that knew him.

He is survived by his daughters, Judy (Glenn) Hodges, Brenda Christison, all of Rossville; grandchildren, Jeff (Jenny) Hodges, of Walaska, Ga., Kelly (Jeff) McGill, of Fort Oglethorpe; the love of his life, his twin great-grandsons, J.D. and Jonathan Hodges; sisters, Tina (Jimmy) Hixson, of Chattanooga Valley, and Ollie Quinn, of Fort Oglethorpe; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, in the chapel with Minister Tommy Cook officiating.

Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens-South.

Family will receive friends after 4 p.m. today.

Eula Mae Hixon

ROCK SPRING-Eula Mae Thacker Hixon, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Brenner Hixon.

Survived by her daughter, Linda and her husband, Doug Mangrum, Harrison; sons, Max and wife, Cathy Hixon, of Frankland, Tenn., David and wife, Vivian Hixon, of Gastonia, N.C., Tony and Vicki Hixon, of Chickamauga, Jeffery and Tiffany Hixon, of Dunlap, Tenn.; sisters, Mary Gunther, of Ringgold, Lois Queen, of LaFayette, and Dorothy Hampton, of LaFayette; brother, Charley Thacker, of Fort Oglethorpe; and 11 grandchildren. Several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral is today at 2 p.m. from Rock Spring United Methodist Church Service conducted by the Rev. Jerry Peele.

Pallbearers are Matt Hixon, Brent Hixon, Travis Hixon, David Hixon Jr., Alex Beekman and Steve Mangrum.

BRIDGEPORT -- Barry Loyd Hurst, 51, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at his home.

A native of Bridgeport he was the son of the late Loyd and Anna Stubblefield Hurst.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Shirley Hurst; daughter, Stacey Hurst, of Bridgeport; stepson, Travis Shipley, of Jasper; brothers, Gary (Judy) Hurst, James Hurst, Bob (Donna) Hurst and William (Karen) Hurst; sisters, Kathy Kirk, Deborah (John) Muir and Sarah (Wayne) Kirk, all of Bridgeport, and Jan Hurst, of South Pittsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. CDT Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, in the funeral home chapel with Brother James Johnson and Brother Brandon Evans officiating.

Interment will follow in Rocky Springs Cemetery with Gary, James, Bob and William Hurst, Lance and Harold Muir serving as pallbearers. Mitchell Kirk and Chris Hurst will serve as honorary pallbearers.

SPARTANBURG, SC- Anne Bruce Cartwright VanVleet, 87, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Summit Hills.

Born April, 28, 1922, in Chattanooga, she was the daughter of the late Bruce Green and Ruby Hickey Cartwright.

A graduate of City High School in Chattanooga, and Ohio State University, she served as church secretary for churches in Savannah, Ga., and Springfield, Mass., and was the co-owner of Snelling and Snelling Personnel Services in Sunnyvale, Calif. She was of the Southern Baptist faith, active with church youth programs, a member of Business Professional Women's Association (BPWA), and served on her high school reunion committee.

Survivors include her husband, Homer VanVleet, Jr., LTC USAF Ret.; a son, Richard B. (Donna) VanVleet, of Chesnee, S.C.; two grandsons, Richard B. (Tami)VanVleet, Jr. and Ryan H. (Katherine) VanVleet, all of Spartanburg, S.C.; and six great-grandchildren, Zack, Zoe, Zayden, Zane, Harrison and Thomas.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Robert C. Monson.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
