Chattanooga: Snow falling, schools closing

Article: School closings

Snow is falling in the Chattanooga area.

All Hamilton County schools were being dismissed at noon, school officials said.

"This came in a lot faster than we were told," said Danielle Clark, a spokesperson for Hamilton County Schools. "We were told a light dusting."

The school buses will run their regular routes, said Ms. Clark.

High school and middle school students will be picked up first, and elementary students will leave 45 minutes later, she said.

All students should be home by 2 p.m. if they ride a bus. Parents who pick up their children should pick up their children beginning at noon. Because the snow is coming rather quickly and freezing, Ms. Clark said schools will not provide after school childcare.

School officials will meet tonight to decide whether or not the weather will require schools to be closed tomorrow, she said.

Cleveland City Schools will close Friday due to the weather but will finish today on regular schedule, officials said.

Cherokee Regional Library System libraries have closed today. That's Dade County, Chickamauga, LaFayette, and Rossville.

Signal Mountain police said the snow is light but is sticking to the ground.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has salted the problem areas on Signal Mountain to keep motorists safe, said Conney Shull, a Signal Mountain police dispatcher.

The police have asked TDOT to re-salt mountain roads now that it is snowing, she said.
