Chattanooga: Infant shot in head by BB round

A BB gun round struck an infant in the back of the head Friday morning, Chattanooga police said.

Police department spokeswoman Rebecca Royval said some residents were on the front porch of their home at 4901 Angela Drive when they heard a gunshot.

As the mother started to carry the baby inside, another shot was fired and a BB hit the baby in the back of the head, Officer Royval said.

Three black males who had been walking around the neighborhood were seen running away immediately afterward, she said.

The infant was treated and released from a local hospital, Officer Royval said. Two of the three suspects have been identified but no charges have been filed at this time, she said.

Officer Royval did not provide the names of the suspects.
