Hamilton County: Fire destroys Sale Creek home

A Sale Creek family lost all their material possessions during a house fire today, officials said.

There were no injuries, but the Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded to a 13207 Back Valley Road as a fire engulfed three-fourths of the home, according to Hamilton County Emergency Services spokeswoman Amy Maxwell.

Firefighters had the fire under control within 30 minutes, she said.

According to Maxwell, homeowners Darryl and Sherry Trewhitt said they smelled something burning inside their house for the past few days, but never found the source. Both Trewhitts were away from the home when the fire started, and they were notified by a neighbor, Ms. Maxwell said.

Officials described the home as a "total loss" valued at $121,000, and Hamilton County Sheriff's Office will conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire.

The Trewhitts have insurance, and the American Red Cross will be assisting the family, Ms. Maxwell said.
