Morgan recommended to head Regents system

NASHVILLE - A search committee of the Tennessee Board of Regents today unanimously recommended former state Comptroller John Morgan to succeed retiring Chancellor Charles W. Manning as head of the state's public higher education system.

That system includes the University of Memphis and Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis.

The full Board of Regents will meet next Friday and is expected to approve the selection of Morgan as the Board of Regents seventh chancellor. Manning has served as chancellor since April 2000 and is retiring at year's end, although it is possible that he may step aside earlier.
