Judge denies new trial motion in player's murder

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A judge in Memphis has denied a request to give a murder convict a new trial.

Devin Jefferson is serving a life prison term on his May conviction in the botched robbery and killing of University of Memphis football player Taylor Bradford.

The 23-year-old Jefferson is one of four men charged in the 2007 murder, which occurred on campus.

The Commercial Appeal reported that in the retrial motion, Jeffries' attorney claimed his client needed a new trial because of what he claimed were inadequate jury instruction, rights violations during police questioning and the quashing of a subpoena for video from a crime television program.

Still to be tried in Bradford's slaying are Victor Trezevant, Daeshawn Tate and Courtney Washington.

All three are high school friends of Jefferson's.
