Virginia Bedwell
Virginia Sims Bedwell, 78, of East Ridge, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010, at a local hospital.
She was a native of Flat Rock, Ala., and had lived most of her life in East Ridge, where she worked at Eckerd's for many years as a pharmaceutical tech. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in East Ridge and always will be remembered for her kindness and willingness to open her home to anyone in need.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie J. Bedwell; and parents, Rufus and Emaline Sims.
Survivors include her son, Michael (Susan) Bedwell, of Chattanooga; two daughters, Kathy Goins and Fail Bedwell, both of Chattanooga; five grandsons, Michael "Tye" (Donna) Bedwell, of Chickamauga, Ga., Samuel Bedwell, of Chattanooga, Thomas Bedwell, of Pensacola, Fla., David Pendergrass, of Chattanooga, and Michael Taylor, of Chattanooga; three great-grandchildren; and several very dear friends.
A private burial will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Touré Brogden, 45, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, in Knoxville.

George L. "Pete" Careathers, 56, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in a local hospital.
He attended Hill High School in LaFayette, Ga., and was employed by Shaw Industries.
He was preceded in death by his parents, D.L. and Louella Morten Careathers; brother, Donald; and sister, Gloria J. Careathers.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Luetta Careathers; three sons, Terrence (Tara) Careathers, of LaFayette, Terry and Timothy Careathers, of Chickamauga, Ga.; three brothers, Charles Careathers, Kenneth Careathers and L.D. Careathers, of LaFayette; three sisters, Carrie McCutchins, of Summerville, Ga., Ella B. Cleveland and Linda (Jefferson) Davis, of Chickamauga; grandchildren, Cameron, Shay and Tamara; a host of other relatives and friends.

Geneva German
Geneva German of Chattanooga passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010, at her daughter's home after a lengthy illness.
Geneva was born Aug. 14, 1925. Geneva retired from Dixie Yarns after 44 years of service. She had been an active member of the East Lake Association and East Lake Seniors, where they still talk about her homemade biscuits.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mae and Clyde Wooten; sister, Dean Brown; brothers, Bill, Hobart and Riley Wooten.
Geneva is survived by her husband, Earl German; daughter, Diane (Charles) Rizzo; granddaughter, Christi (Scott) Underwood; two grandsons, Christopher and Jonathan Underwood; sisters Genell Clayton, Reida Jones, Dayton, Tenn., Nancy (Bobby) Bolton, Dayton, Deborah Thomas, Grand Prairie, Texas; brothers, Don (Bonnie) Wooten, Grand Prairie, Eugene Wooten, Dayton, Tenn., and Larry (Brenda) Wooten, Dayton.
On April 5, 2010, Geneva and Earl would have been married 67 years.

Virgil Lee Goins, 89, of Ooltewah, passed away Friday, March 5, 2010.
A native of Athens, Tenn., he was a longtime resident of Ooltewah and was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Bell Goins; daughter, Phyllis Headrick; and a son, Edgar Goins.
Survivors include four daughters, Wanda Evans, Joyce Burton, Glenda Marshall and Diane Walker; three sons, James Goins, Ernest Goins and Larry Goins.

Clifford Grant
J. Clifford Grant, 93, of Chattanooga, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at a local nursing home.
Mr. Grant was born in Dunlap, Tenn., to Robert and Alice Grant. He was a member of East Ridge Presbyterian Church and retired from Mills & Lupton Supply Co. as vice president. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific and Africa.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Irene P. Grant; his parents; sister, Beulah Shannon; infant brother, Louis Grant; and brothers, Lester and Wayne Grant.
Surviving are his brothers, Elbert Grant, Don (Maxine) Grant, and Clinton (Kay) Grant; sister, Carrie Wollam; sister-in-law, Frankie Grant; and several nieces and nephews.

Deborah Hampton
Deborah "Debbi" Lang Hampton, of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at her home in Chattanooga after a 15-year battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Washington, D.C., on March, 3, 1952, to Louis William and Emma-Joyce Johncox Lang, Debbi was a registered nurse and attended Goucher College in Baltimore, Md., before moving to Chattanooga in 1978.
A talented vocalist, piano and bass guitar player, a writer and poet, Debbi authored Slapped Awake, a Breast Cancer Journey in Poetry and Prose, was editor-in-chief of Brilliant Star (a national Baha'i children's magazine), wrote extensively for children and did freelance writing and editing.
A Certified Fundraising Professional, Debbi was director of development for Partnership for Families, Children and Adults for five years. She served as coordinator of admissions for St. Nicholas School for eight years and as executive director of the Chattanooga affiliate of Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization. She worked as an RN in the first shock trauma unit at the University of Maryland and as a visiting nurse in inner-city Baltimore, her favorite nursing job.
Passionate about breast cancer advocacy, Debbi served as a peer counselor for other women facing breast cancer and served as an advocate reviewer on scientific and medical panels reviewing breast cancer research proposals, including those administered by the U.S. Department of Defense.
Debbi was a devoted member of the Baha'i faith, serving on Baha'i Spiritual Assemblies in Harford County, Md., Hamilton County and Chattanooga. She served on the editorial board for the National Baha'i Publishing Trust and taught Baha'i children's classes for more than 25 years. In her service for the Baha'i faith, she traveled throughout South America, Uganda, Costa Rica, the Ukraine and Russia.
Debbi is survived by her beloved husband, Steve; her beloved daughter, Hollin Blaylock (husband, Rodney); stepchildren, Laura Hampton Nance and Christopher Nelson Hampton (wife, Jennifer); brother, Jeffrey Mark Lang (wife, Teresa) of Baltimore; sister, Audrey Helen Critchfield, of Latrobe, Pa.; niece, Helen Critchfield; grandchildren, Naomi and Lindi Blaylock, Jesseca and Colby Nance, Kistler, Avery and Prescott Hampton, Kylan and Sajin Cyr; and devoted friend, Ron Nance.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Partnership for Families, Children and Adults, Breast Cancer Network of Strength and St. Nicholas School-Financial Aid.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel.

Helen Duff Lockwood, 93, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010, in a local health care facility.
Helen's claims to fame were her sense of humor, enriching everyone's life she met and her extraordinary cooking abilities. She was a tireless worker and devoted member of the Girl Scouts, Chattanooga Boys Choir, Kosmos Woman's Club, Manchester Park and Datonia Garden Clubs and Erlanger Pink Ladies. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Lemont Ross Lockwood, and sisters, Chloe Brandon and Edna Rose preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Lamont (Debby) Lockwood, of Plano, Texas; daughter, Linda (Ray) Towers, of Red Bank; grandsons, Tommy and Robert Lockwood, Kevin (Meredith) Gardner and Christ (Nichole) Garner; great-grandsons, Christian and Ethan Garner and Jake and Jamie Garner.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Buck officiating.

Judy Fay Peardon, 57, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010, in a local hospital.
Judy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a breast cancer survivor. She was a member of Straight Way Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Carrie Yates; brothers, Thomas Fletcher, Walter Ray Yates; sisters, Mary Ruth Johnson, and Ruby Baker.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Gordon Peardon; son, Robert Evitt and wife, Jenny; daughters, Henrietta Hill and husband, Ricky, Laura Howen and husband, Josh; sisters, Willie Bell Baker, Nancy Cook and husband, Henry; five grandchildren, Brittany Tallant, Haley Evitt, Allie Tallant, MacKenzie Evitt, Ryan Howen; and several nieces and nephews.

Madolyn Rawls
Madolyn Murphy Rawls, of Chattanooga, died on Thursday, March 4, 2010, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 13, 1922, in Robertson County, Tenn., to John J. and Nancy B. Murphy, both of whom preceded her in death, along with five sisters and two brothers.
Madolyn is survived by her husband, Wendell, of Red Bank; son, Wendell Jr. "Sonny" and wife, Katie, of Brentwood, Tenn.; daughter, Carole R. Waller and husband, Bob, of Signal Mountain; four grandchildren, Amanda C. Rawls, Matthew B. Rawls and wife, Megan, Chip Waller and wife, Joey, and Blake Waller. She has a great-granddaughter, Dylan Rawls. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. On June 19, 2010, Madolyn and Wendell would have been married 70 years.
Madolyn owned a catering service for over 30 years and took great pride in her profession. It always thrilled her to see the brides whose wedding receptions she had catered. She was an outstanding cook and prepared food that was not only delicious but beautifully displayed.
She was a member of the Red Bank United Methodist Church for over 55 years. She was extremely active in her church prior to her illness. At the time of her death she was a member of the Shaw-Murray Sunday School Class. In earlier years she was a Sunday school teacher, member of the Chancel Choir and served on many committees. She was on the committee whose members began the Wednesday night dinners. For 13 years, she supervised the preparation and serving of these dinners, with the help and expertise of her two dear friends, Mattie Fowlke and Mabel Williams. Later, as a member of the church's WSCS she was asked to select, purchase and decorate the furniture and accessories for the present church parlor. This was a fulfillment of a service of love which she had dreamed of for many years.
In addition to her church, she was deeply involved in the Garden Club activities. She served as president of the Daytonia Garden Club of Red Bank for several years. She was elected chairperson of the Tennessee District III State Garden Club and vice president of the Tennessee State Garden Club.
Madolyn served as president of the PTA at Hixson Elementary School, Red Bank Junior High School and Red Bank High School. She was Mothers' Club president of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority at the University of Chattanooga.
She and her husband were avid square dancers and were members of the Circle Eights Square Dance Club for more than 30 years.
Madolyn loved being a part of her civic, community and area recreational activities. She spent many hours planting, watering and caring for the flowers, bushes and trees in the Red Bank community. However, she always considered her home, family and church the most cherished and important parts of her life. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her most.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, March, 8, at the Red Bank United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Red Bank United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jeff Lambert and the Rev. Mark Gooden will officiate.
A private burial will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Thomas A. Wild Jr., passed away on Friday, March 5, 2010, at the age of 88.

PIKEVILLE - Clarence Edward Holland, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 6, 2010.
Clarence was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with Taft Youth Center as a boiler operator. He was a member of Mooneyham Freewill Baptist Church and of the American Legion Post 66.
Clarence was preceded in death by his infant son, Gary Allen Holland; brother, William Holland; sister, Marie Gifford; and his parents, Herman and Eva Holland.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ellen Troy Holland; sons, Randy (Kathy) Holland, Duluth, Ga., and Stanley Holland, Murfreesboro, Tenn., daughter, Pam (Danny) Fowler, Dunlap, Tenn., brother, Alford (Peggy) Holland, Pikeville; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Pikeville Funeral Home at 10 a.m. CST on Tuesday March 9 with Bro. Wayne Sullivan and Bro. Hubert Thurman officiating.
Burial will be in Blankenship Cemetery with full military honors, followed by a white dove release.

She was 63 and lived in North Georgia for most of her life. She was known as the community "mom" and "granny".
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Hicks and Voncile Helton Hicks; and brother, David Wayne Hicks.

He was a retired truck driver from McKee Bakery, a tour bus driver for D & L Charter Tours and C & A Charter Tours.
Buddy served in the United States Navy, he enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of New Vision Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, E.O. and Myrtle McCarty; wives, Stella McCarty and Joann McCarty.
Survivors include his wife, Patrice McCarty; daughter, Ramona Morton and step-daughter, Melissa White; son, Ricky McCarty and step-son, Troy and Cindy Lawson; one sister, Connie Pierce; three special friends, Cecil Morgan, Don Lowery, and Howard Massey; 13 granddaughters, and two great-granddaughters.

CHICKAMAUGA - Carolyn Marie O'Rear Wadika, 75, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010.
She was born Sept. 18, 1934 to the late Francis Marion O'Rear and Mary E. Petty O'Rear in North Platte, Neb. She was a member of St. Gerard's Catholic Church, a former secretary for Lakewood Memory Gardens, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxilary, the Ladies Club of St. Gerard's, and past President of the Ladies Guild of St. Gerards, a former member of the Civil Air Patrol and the Choo Choo Cat Fanciers Club.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Mary Lou Logan and Betty Nanette Logan; sisters, Jeanette Murphy and Nancy Marina; brothers, Frank O'Rear and Gilbert A. O'Rear.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Logan Sanders; son, Donovan Lester Logan, Jr., both of Chickamauga; brother, Joseph A. O'Rear of Rossville; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews,
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel.
The family will receive friends all day today.
Interment will follow in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

RINGGOLD - Edna Ruth Davis Webb, 83, passed away Friday, March 5, 2010, in a local health care facility.
She was born Nov. 21, 1925, to the late Arthur A. and Zola Ann Cordell Davis.
Her husband, the Rev. Ernest Webb; sister and brother-in-law, Francis E. Davis and Jessie R. Barnett; brother and sister-in-law, William A. and Willene O. Cordell Davis; niece, Mary A. Davis; brother-in-law, Gus E. Hardy, Sr.; and nephew, Gus E. Hardy, Jr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sister, Betty Davis Hardy and several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at noon in the North Chapel with the Rev. Donald Kelley officiating.
Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
