Teen accused in case stemming from text message

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. - A Shelbyville teenager is due in court April 6 on charges of solicitation of a minor that grew out of a text message accidentally sent to a police detective.

Nineteen-year-old Cristian Ojeda Torres was jailed under $10,000 bond.

The Shelbyville Times-Gazette quoted police as saying Torres was using his cell phone to randomly send messages to several people at once to see who would respond. Two of the cell numbers, which were one digit apart, belonged to police.

Police said officers did not let on that he had reached law enforcement and told him he was communicating with a 13-year-old girl. Detectives said the communication led to the topic of sex and wanting to meet up.
