Local agencies ask for $8 million more from city, county

Agencies jointly funded by the city and county asked today for almost $8 million more in budget requests.

The agencies asked for about $4.9 million more from the city than last year's budget and more than $3 million dollars from the county.

Some of the jointly funded agencies include the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Public Library, Allied Arts Greater Chattanooga and the Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority.

The Hamilton County Commission and Chattanooga City Council met this morning in a joint session at the county courthouse to hear the requests as both bodies begin next fiscal year's budget.

Both panels hope to have budgets passed by June 30, the day before the new fiscal year begins.
