Betty Jo Dagley, 72, lifelong resident of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010, at her home.

She was a member of Stanley Independent Church. She was the daughter of the late Garland and Bertha Whiteside.

Survivors include her husband, George F. Dagley; daughter, Mitzi Murphy, of Red Bank; son, Robert M. (Mary) Wilson, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Robert Byrd, Chelsea Smith and Andrew Murphy; and two sisters, Billie Varnell and Wilma Corbin.

Pauline Goins

Pauline Chance Goins, 80, of Harrison, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010, in a local health care facility.

She was born Aug. 29, 1929, in Dalton, Ga., to the late Glenn and Mary Chance.

She was a member of Hamilton Baptist Church for over 50 years and was retired from Volunteer Life Insurance after 39 years of service.

She was a volunteer for Memorial Hospital and the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center.

Her brother, Leonard Chance, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Jolly Goins, of Harrison; brothers, J.B. (Geneva) Chance and Gene (Becky) Chance; sisters, Edna Deverell, Ethel Gibson and Glennie Flood, all of Dalton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the North Chapel with the Rev. John Wheeler officiating.

Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Gregory Dean "Dino" Graham, 34, of Soddy-Daisy, died in an automobile accident Sunday, May 16, 2010.

He was of the Baptist faith. He graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School in 1994. He was employed by Jake Marshall.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lloyd Brooks and Dean Skiles and James Clyde Graham, and an uncle, Kenneth Brooks.

He is survived by his father, James Gregory Graham, of Soddy-Daisy; his mother and stepfather, Rhonda Brooks Davis and M.E. Davis, of Soddy-Daisy; daughter, Karissa Elizabeth Graham, of Soddy-Daisy; grandmother, Dorothy Dean Graham; uncles, Thomas Ray Graham and Chris Brooks; aunts, Marilyn May, Robbie Brooks, Terri Walker and Lisa Pardue; cousins, Charlie Cox, Don Cox, Katrice Cox, Jason Stone, Jill Mitchell, Amanda Palmer, William Brooks, Michael Kostiuk and Patrick Walker; and special cousin, Regina Kelley and family.

Don Haley Sr.

Don Haley Sr., 66, of Chattanooga, joined the Lord on Friday, May 14, 2010.

Don was strong in his faith in the Lord and stands by Him now. He was scouted in high school for his pitching arm by the majors until a break mishap ended his ballplaying career. Don was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was in the restaurant business for many years serving as manager of The Longhorn's across the Chattanooga area and the Town & Country Restaurant in Dalton, Ga. He was former president of the Chattanooga Restaurant Association. He was a gracious host and loved interacting with his customers and friends throughout the years.

He will be greatly missed and dearly remembered by his family, friends, and brothers and sisters at Deliverance Outreach Ministries. He loved you all tremendously.

Don was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Cassie Maw Haley; great-grandfather and great-grandmother, Luther and Flora Mae Sprouse; father, Charles Haley; sister, Jean Bates; mother, Bonnie Haley; and wife, Delilah.

James Hamilton

James Charles "Charlie" Hamilton, 80, of Hixson, died at his home Tuesday, May 18, 2010.

Mr. Hamilton was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church and was a Veteran of the Korean War and received the Purple Heart.

Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by his parents, John Daily and Mary Caroline Higgins Hamilton; his first wife, Denise Layne Hamilton; three sisters; and four brothers.

Rev. Walter Harmon

The Rev. Walter J. Harmon, formerly of Chattanooga, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 8, 2010, in Newport News, Va.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 21, 1975. He grew up in Chattanooga, graduating from Brainerd High School before joining the U.S. Army in 1993. He was an associate pastor at New Testament Christian Church in Newport News and was employed with Home Depot, Williamsburg, Va., and CertaPro Painters, Newport News, Va.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Sarousha Lilliemae Harmon and Ella Mae Hardaway, and uncle, Wilton R. Cromwell.

He is survived by wife, Tanya Raymore Harmon; sons, James Walter and Andrew Jay; parents, Amber and Walter Harmon; sister, Vera M. (Marcus) Mills; grandfather, Adam J. Hardaway; aunts and uncles, Katherine Allen, Brooklyn, N.Y., Cynthia James, New York, N.Y., Bonita (James) Terry, Clifford (Abimbola) Harmon, Brooklyn, N.Y., Melvin (Monica ) Moon, Wytheville, Va., Gregory Hardaway, Joseph (Linda) Hardaway, Sandra (Jerome) Gober and Ricky (Charlotte) Hardaway, all of Chattanooga; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Rod Keys, 61, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010, at Erlanger Hospital, in Chattanooga.

Paul Lappin

Paul E. Lappin, 85, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 17, 2010.

Paul was born in Sewanee, Tenn., and served our country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He retired from DeSoto Chemicals and attended Northside Baptist Church.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Hobert and Ethel Lappin; and a brother, Joseph Lappin.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Long Lappin; two daughters, Paulette Tessmann, of Murfreesboro, and Teresa Lappin, of Chattanooga; four grandchildren, P.J. (Kelly Ann) Tessmann, Tara (Kelly) Jones, Jo (Rick) Young and Casey (Chris) Pianta; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the North Chapel.

Services for Paul will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the North Chapel with the Rev. Mitchell Reaves officiating.

Margaret Pearson

Margaret Blevins Pearson passed away recently.

Survived by her husband, Charles Pearson Jr.; her daughter, Sheila Akin and husband, Dr. Bill Akin, all of Nashville; son, Charles Pearson III and wife, Carolyn Pearson, of Herndon, Va.; grandchildren, Dr. William Akin and wife, Whitney Akin, Elizabeth Claire Akin, Justin Pearson and wife, Amy Pearson, and Kevin Pearson, and great-grandson, Owen.

Mrs. Pearson also is survived by her brother, Robert Blevins and his wife, Agnes Blevins, of Irving, Texas.

She was the daughter of Hoyle and Mary Blevins who raised their nine children in Decatur, Tenn. She and her husband were longtime residents of Chattanooga and later moved to Nashville. Mrs. Pearson will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

To honor her life, there will be a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 21, at Woodmont Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

Clarence Troxell

Clarence William Troxell, 58, of Chattanooga, departed this life Monday, May 17, 2010.

He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was of the Baptist faith. He served his country aboard the USS Grand Canyon in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Maurine Troxell, and brothers, Gene, Ralph, James, and Steve Troxell.

He is survived by his sisters, Martha Ann Cox (Wendell), of Rossville and Mary Catherine Troxell, of Wartrace, Tenn.; brothers, Johnny Troxell, of Rossville, Kenny Troxell (Donna), of Chattanooga, Harold Troxell, of East Ridge, Terry Lee Troxell (Carol), of East Ridge, and Claude Troxell, of East Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010, in the funeral home chapel with Brother Charles McElhaney officiating.

Interment to follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Marian Watkins

Marian Dawn Watkins, 49, of Chattanooga, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, as a result of an automobile accident.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend who will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her father, Willard "Bill" Watkins Sr., and her mother, Alice Watkins.

Survivors include two daughters, Bethany Watkins Moore and Gina McCommon; three grandsons, Buford and Matthew Reyna and Bradley McCommon; two granddaughters, Jordan and Emily McCommon; seven sisters; two brothers; several nieces and nephews; and her faithful friend and dog, Einstein.

Mary Gray Wooten, 60, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 17, 2010.

She was born in Roseboro, N.C., daughter of the late O.C. and Beatrice Jackson and had lived in Hixson for the past 25 years.

Mary was a member of North River Christian Church and was an avid gardener.

Her passion was her three grandchildren, whom she dearly loved, as well as her poodle, Quincy.

Survivors are her husband, Thomas Wooten; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Lisa Wooten and Jonathan and Christy Wooten; three grandchildren, Carter, Abigail and Rebekah, all of Hixson; a brother, Bobby Jackson, of North Carolina; and a sister, Peggy Fischer, of Colorado.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 21, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Welch officiating.

Paula Arms

CLEVELAND -- Paula Gail Arms, 55, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010, in a local hospital after a long battle with Melanoma Cancer.

She was a graduate of Cleveland High School. Paula was a member of Brand of the Cross Cowboy Fellowship Church in Ringgold. Before she started her battle, she owned Country Inn Boarding Kennel and was a Veterinary Technician and worked with several local Veterinarian offices.

Paula was an events coordinator with Tri-State Exhibition Center. She was an avid horse owner and lover. She was an accomplished local barrel racer and had achieved several high rankings and placements; she was a role model for local women in the sport.

Paula is survived by her husband, Scott Arms, of Cleveland; three children, Jason Woods and his wife, Monica, of Cleveland, Ginnifer Ellison and her husband, Matt, of Chattanooga, and Chey Arms, of Cleveland; four grandchildren, Shelby and Lauren Woods, Ashlyn and Jackson Ellison; her parents, William "Bob" and Faye Wallace, of Cleveland; her brother, Steve Wallace, of Chattanooga; her in-laws, Bill and Lou Hill, of Cleveland, and Sam and Rhonda Arms, of Ocoee; brother-in-law, Kevin Hill and family, of Madisonville, and Sarah Arms, of Chattanooga; several cousins; and many wonderful friends, especially Elvan and Sue Brooks, of Cleveland.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Avery "Paul" and Daisy Scoggins, and her paternal grandparents, Carl and Roselle Wallace.

Paula had requested to donate her body to the University of Tennessee at Memphis. Her body will be used for many wonderful medical uses.

SOUTH PITTSBURG -- Rose Marie Head Bratcher, 82, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, in a Chattanooga hospital.

Born April 22, 1928, in Sewanee, Tenn., she was a member of Battle Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Head Brummitt; husbands, William Lonnie Bratcher Sr. and William Lewis Johnson; son, William Lewis Johnson Jr.; and daughters, Frances Joyce Johnson and Margaret Rose Gibson.

She is survived by her children, Allie May Haley, Gloria Kennedy, Dianne Barnes, Leroy Johnson, JR Johnson, Billy Bratcher Jr. and Mikey Bratcher, all of South Pittsburg; 15 grandchildren, Jimmy "Man" Haley Jr., Lynn Haley Garman, Margaret Godsby, Donna Gibson, Cynthia Kennedy, John "Bud" Kennedy Jr., Robert "Dobber" Barnes Jr., Crystal Johnson Jacobs, Ashley Johnson, Lewis Johnson, Spencer Johnson, Leah Kinsey, Julie Kinsey, Alex Bratcher and Gavin Bratcher; 12 great-grandchildren; best friends, Helen Smith and Melissa Dodson; very special friend, Ernie Dawson, of Heirline; and many other loving, giving friends.

CHARLESTON -- Albert E. Gruhl, 80, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010, in a Chattanooga health care facility.

He retired from Alcoa Aluminum after 39 years of service. He was also a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean conflict in Japan. He was a member of the Mended Hearts Organization in Iowa. He attended Wesley United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Katherine Moderi Gruhl.

He is survived by his companion of 30 years, Mary F. WHITWELL -- Joe Earl Morrison, 79, passed away Monday, May 18, 2010.

The daughter of the late Joe E. and Virginia Ruth Argo Murray, she was a nurse, having worked at Grandview Medical Center and most recently for the Marion County Sherriff's Department.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Turner, of South Pittsburg; children, Jason Turner and Lee Turner, both of South Pittsburg, and Heather Turner Hicks, of Guild, Tenn.; sister, Judy Stone, of South Pittsburg; nephews, Michael Joseph Stone and Michael Jordan, both of South Pittsburg; niece, Shelby Jordan, of New Hope; grandchildren, Graem Turner, Seth Turner and Hayden Turner; and special friends, Michelle Gulley, of Bridgeport, Ala., Jean Waldrop, of Bryant, Ala., and Christine Rogers, of Chattanooga.

Lucille Brooks

LaFAYETTE -- Lucille Lumpkin Brooks died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.

Lucille was born in 1928 to the late Reuben Fred and Ethel Pinion Lumpkin. She graduated from LaFayette High School, married in 1947, and raised her family in LaFayette. Lucille prepared tax returns for a living but is most fondly remembered throughout the community for her generous spirit and her outspoken honesty. She lived her life to the fullest.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rayburn Brooks, in 1982, and by her brothers, Gene and William Lumpkin.

Survivors include her son, Ray Brooks, and his wife, Pam, of Greenwood, S.C.; her daughter, Patti Fisher, of Tucker, Ga.; sister, Pauline Childs, of Fort Oglethorpe; grandson, Ben Brooks, and his wife, Rachel, of LaFayette; granddaughter, Lucinda Sellers, and her husband, T.J., of Tucker, Ga.; great-granddaughter, Reese Elizabeth Sellers; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EDT Thursday at the Wallis Wilbanks Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Ted Scoggins officiating.

Burial will follow at LaFayette Cemetery.
