Chattanooga: CHA gets $3.9 million to build on Fairmount Avenue

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $3.9 million to the Chattanooga Housing Authority to build 18 townhouses on Fairmount Avenue.

"We are delighted, excited," said Naveed Minhas, CHA's vice president of development. "We want to move forward. This approval is a step in that direction."

Mr. Minhas announced the approval today at the Chattanooga Housing Authority's monthly board meeting. The approval came Friday, he said.

It's been more than seven months since HUD awarded the housing authority $4.8 million to build a more environmentally friendly public housing site on Fairmount Avenue in North Chattanooga. The original plan to increase the site from 28 units to 48 units drew so much controversy, CHA eventually agreed to build only 18 townhouses.
