Store owner charged with selling cigarettes, lottery ticket to minor

The owner of a Bradley County convenience store has been charged with selling cigarettes and a lottery ticket to a minor.

Pankajbhai V. Patel, 49, is facing the misdemeanor charges of unlawful sale of cigarettes to a minor and unlawful sale of a lottery ticket to a minor, said Bob Gault, spokesman for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office. Patel, the owner of One Stop Shop on Waterlevel Highway, has a Dec. 9 hearing in General Sessions Court, Gault said.

A local parent had complained to the sheriff's office after his son was found with cigarettes at school, Gault said. On Thursday, the sheriff's office sent an undercover 17-year-old male into One Stop Shop, where he was allowed to buy a pack of cigarettes and a lottery ticket, Gault said.
