Hearing set in mayor recall effort

September 2nd, 2010 by Cliff Hightower in Local Regional News

Two separate requests to intervene in the lawsuit over the effort to recall Mayor Ron Littlefield are set for a hearing Friday morning.

Littlefield's spokesman, Richard Beeland, said this afternoon that the city of Chattanooga is asking to intervene. Jim Folkner, with Citizens to Recall Mayor Littlefield, also has a motion to intervene on behalf of the petitioners.

Littlefield filed suit this week against the Hamilton County Election Commission seeking an injunction to stop the recall election. The Citizens to Recall Mayor Littlefield, the Chattanooga Tea Party and Chattanooga Organized for Action collected more than 9,000 signatures on petitions seeking to force a recall election on Nov. 2.

The hearing is set for 9 a.m. before Circuit Judge Jeff Hollingsworth.
