A 51-year-old man was killed early this morning on Hixson Pike when his motorcycle slammed head-on into an SUV and exploded.
Perry Maddux was killed in the wreck, said Officer Rebecca Royval, police spokeswoman, while Demario Goodwin, 26, the driver of the Ford Explorer, was taken to the hospital complaining of pain.
About 1 a.m., Maddux was traveling north on Hixson Pike when the Explorer, which was traveling south, crossed the centerline in the 1400 block of Hixson Pike, Royval said. Maddux's Kawasaki motorcycle collided with the SUV and burst into flame, she said.
Alcohol may be a contributing factor in the crash, but no charges have been filed against Goodwin at this time, Royval said. However, the crash is still under investigation, she said.
