Former student charged with damaging historic Chickamauga school

A graduate of Gordon Lee High School in Chickamauga, Ga., has been charged with spray painting vulgar language and defacing the front area of the historic building.

Police arrested Cameron Jonathan Oliver on Monday afternoon in connection with the damage done to the building late on March 27, Chickamauga Police Department Chief Micheal Haney said.

Oliver was charged with criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree, which is a felony, Haney said.

The building is more than one hundred years old and listed in the National Historic District, Haney said. The paint had to be sandblasted off the columns of the building and has cost the school more than $500 to repair, he said.

Haney said police discovered that Oliver had bragged to several people in person and through text messages that he had spray painted the school.
