Endowment funds Pikeville water project

Pikeville has received a $7.2 million endowment through the Tennessee Building Commission to build an 8.6-mile section of water lines for the state's Bledsoe County Correctional Complex project, state officials said.

Pikeville Mayor Greg Johnson said the endowment, combined with previous water system grants, will improve the town system enough that Pikeville's water customers might not see a rate increase for years to come.

Pikeville will become the water supplier for the new $208 million prison, along with the existing Southeastern Tennessee State Regional Correctional Facility and Taft Youth Center, he said.

Water line work should begin in July or August, Johnson said.
