Whitfield County mother charged for leaving children home alone

A Whitfield County mother has been charged for leaving her three children home alone while she went to work.

Codie Ballew Ball, 23, was charged with cruelty to children, abandonment of children and giving false statements, according to a police incident report.

When a sheriff's deputy responded to a call to check on children at a home on Trailwood Drive, he found three children inside alone and the back door unlocked late Monday night, a police incident report shows.

Several officers also found a baby girl crying in her crib with a wet diaper and a fan and electric floor heater running in the room, the report stated. When the officer asked the young girl in the home where her parents were, she told them at work.

Ball was found work at a local Kangaroos with her present husband, Vernon Ball, the report stated.

While Ballew told officers she had left the children with a babysitter, the babysitter told police she hadn't been asked to watch the children that night, the report showed.

Officers then contacted the Department of Human Services and arrested Ball, the report showed.
