A Chickamauga, Ga., man who was reported missing contacted Arkansas State Police on Thursday, authorities said.

While Perry "Jay" Cope, 49, was reported by his wife as missing on March 25, Cope told police he had left Walker County by his own choice, Sheriff Steve Wilson said in a news release.

After Cope's wife filed the report at the end of March, she told Walker County authorities Cope had called her last Sunday and said he was in California, Wilson said.

But on Thursday, Arkansas State Police called the Walker County sheriff's office to report Cope had called them to say he had left Walker County at his own will, Wilson said.

When the missing person report first was filed, Wilson called the case suspicious. But no criminal charges are expected to be filed in the case, he said.
