Fire, police, city workers address City Council

Dozens of firefighters, policemen and city workers crowded the City Council assembly room tonight to air their grievances over pay, pensions and appeals.

Jonathon Lehman, a local firefighter, spoke for about four minutes on behalf of three employee unions, saying they were expressing solidarity.

"We're not irrational; we're not greedy," Lehman said.

He said the only thing the union members wanted was what had been taking from them over the years. He gave a list of grievances, including making sure the city's pension plans remained untouched, giving city workers health coverage over the age of 65 and making sure workers are paid overtime.
