Trial begins in case related to noose found at BlueCross site

A federal trial began today in a case of alleged racial discrimination at the construction site of the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee headquarters in Chattanooga.

Chad Byers claims he was fired in 2008 for talking with the media the day a noose was found hanging in an elevator shaft at the site.

His employer, J.M. Hanner, claims Byers was fired for repeated poor job performance in his two months of employment.

Byers is suing for lost pay.

The trial resumes this afternoon.
