RBHS art students design backdrops for Easter play

Red Bank High School art students are designing backdrops for the Miracle Missionary Baptist Church Easter play coming up April 24 at 1:30 p.m. titled "Jesus is King."

"Red Bank High School saved us a lot of money and a lot of time," said the church's youth minister Daniel Wright, who also works at Red Bank Middle School. "We only have one guy at the church that can make backdrops. The art teacher here told me that I should contact local high school art programs for help with it."

RBHS art instructor Kraig Campbell said 10 RBHS art students ranging from sophomores to seniors are working on scenes of Jesus' Last Supper and the tomb where Jesus arose from the grave. He said the scenes are on 6-foot-by-20-foot corrugated poster board painted with various colors of Tempura paint.

"I thought this would be a great way for our students to have a positive influence in the community," said Campbell. "It's not every day you hear about kids helping kids."

Wright said play participants are students from a variety of Chattanooga area schools. He said the play has two acts with six scenes. He said the play shows Jesus dying on the cross, rising from the tomb and Jesus in the upper room talking to Thomas.

"The message that I want people to bring away is that Jesus died for our sins," said Wright. "And he still reigns today as king."
