Chattanooga baby gets lung transplant

After her newborn daughter was diagnosed with a heart defect and weak lungs in 2009, Chattanooga police officer Sheila Jetton worried about her baby's very survival.

Tiny Elizabeth has needed help to breathe since birth and in December she was put on a list for a lung transplant.

Those lungs arrived Friday morning and the surgery was performed at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. It takes about two days before doctors can be positive a patient accepts an organ transplant, but Saturday evening everything was looking fine, Sheila Jetton said by telephone.

"She's had to fight a lot to get to this point. We're very hopeful she'll be able to keep fighting through this."
