Police probe whether officers gave tip about raid

DETROIT - Authorities say they're investigating whether two Detroit police officers tipped off patrons of an illegal after-hours club that a raid was about to take place.

The Detroit News reports Tuesday that the club was being staked out March 27 when the officers, who weren't part of the operation, went inside. Authorities say the officers and most of the patrons left by the time the club was raided. Three people were arrested and 18 ticketed.

The Wayne County sheriff's department says in a statement it believes a tip came as investigators were finalizing details of a warrant for the raid.

The Rev. Jerome Warfield, chairman of the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners, says the two officers have been suspended with pay.

The sheriff's department and the Detroit Police Department were investigating.
