East Ridge city officials are advising all citizens to avoid the west side of the city, if possible.

Areas west of John Ross Road to South Seminole Drive are closed, along with a number of side streets and connector roads. Avoid the area bordered by John Ross Road to Missionary Ridge, a news release from the city stated.

The power is expected to be out for hours, if not days. Citizens are urged to begin making preparations for power to be out for an extended period of time. The city is working with the Electric Power Board to clear trees and restore power, but due to the extensive damages, this will be a prolonged process, the news release stated.

The East Ridge Fire, Police and Public Works have extra manpower to assist during this emergency.
