Authorities continue searching for the missing in Rainsville, Ala., area.

RAINSVILLE, Ala. - Authorities this morning are continuing search-and-rescue efforts to track down missing people here.

Michael Edmondson, chief deputy with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, said 32 fatalities have come through their command center, but that does not include any who came through area hospitals.

"It's hard to talk about," he said. "You see so much devastation, injury and death."

Edmondson noted authorities have been criticized for not shutting down roads. The damage is widespread across very rural, southern parts of the county, he said.

"It would take half the police in Alabama to close down the area that was hit," Edmondson said.
