Chattanooga: Update from EPB

This morning's update on the power restoration effort:

With help from utilities all over the country, crews restored power to an additional 6,000 homes and businesses during the night.

We're still working on restoring power to a remaining 38,000 homes and businesses.

It could be Thursday before all homes and businesses have their power restored.

We have over 1100 people working on the restoration effort, from our own employees, retirees and contractors to hundreds of others who have come from 18 different states. There are still crews on their way to Chattanooga to help.

To date, we've identified 281 broken utility poles on our electric system. To put that into context, the blizzard of 1993, which was the worst storm in EPB's history prior to Wednesday's, resulted in 89 broken poles over the 8 day restoration effort.

We have crews working literally all over the area, including North Chattanooga, Apison, Brainerd, Red Bank, Lookout Mountain, Lookout Valley, East Ridge, Missionary Ridge, Rossville, St. Elmo, Hixson, Tyner, East Lake, Ooltewah and many more areas.

Please help keep everyone safe by reminding customers that if they see a downed power line, STAY AWAY and call us at 648-1372, let us know on Twitter @EPB_Chattanooga or email us at cicweb@epb.net.
