A woman accused of killing her daughter's 17-year-old boyfriend in February has had her first court appearance delayed.

Margaret Harris, 38, was scheduled to appear before Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Rebecca Stern Thursday, but the date has been moved to Sept. 21.

Her attorney, Lloyd Levitt, has requested more time to gather information about the case.

Harris is accused of killing James Sherrell by shooting him in the abdomen with a pistol following a street fight on Feb. 18, according to court documents. Sherrell was the boyfriend of Harris' daughter, LaToya Harris.

According to witness testimony, Sherrell had approached the car that Harris and her boyfriend Bryant Hill were sitting in after the fight, and tried to choke Hill. After Hill fought Sherrell off, witnesses said Sherrell backed up 10 feet from the car.

Harris got out of the passenger side, pointed a pistol at Sherrell over the top of the car and fired one shot, witnesses said.

Sherrell died shortly afterwards in a hospital.
